Presenting the Geographic and Demographic Analysis of Recruitment Across Industry Sectors in India

India has a vital role in the world trade network as it ranks fifth in global economy size. Its gross domestic product (GDP) and financial stability are sustained by various important industrial sectors such as automobile, consumer goods, retail, manufacturing and logistics.

The Asian Development Bank’s survey revealed that almost half of the country’s population is engaged in maintaining its GDP of around 7%. The survey also stated that 12 million people are employed in the labour market each year.

Moreover, bulk recruitment services have emerged to address the issues that prevail while recruiting a large number of people in India’s labour force. Now, let's look into how geographic and demographic factors have shaped the bulk recruitment service industry in the country.

Automobile

With more people purchasing vehicles, the automobile sector’s growth has soared. It contributes 7.1% of India’s GDP with most sales being bagged in locations like Gurugram, Chennai and Pune. Women comprise 34% of the automobile workforce in the country. Bulk recruitment companies in India also deploy experts to train the workforce on specific skills required to establish the highest performance benchmarks.

Fast-moving Consumer Goods (FMCG)

FMCG occupies both urban and rural India where people from both regions are employed. It contributes 8.9% to the GDP but unfortunately, is lagging in its women workforce which sums up to only 13%. The FMCG industry looms large in states like Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and West Bengal.

Retail

Flourishing in major cities such as Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai and Bengaluru, the retail industry holds 10% of India’s GDP. It offers a variety of job openings for store managers, salespeople and cashiers while women occupy 25-30% of its workforce.

Manufacturing

Holding 17% of the country’s GDP, the manufacturing sector employs a massive 27.3 million employees. Looming large across states such as Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Gujarat, it happens to be the most promising of all the industries. Even if men occupy the majority share in the manufacturing workforce, women’s employment in this sector has now improved and has come up to 12%.

Logistics

Transportation and supply chains from factories to warehouses form the logistics sector, and a Women Entrepreneur India report revealed that 2018 saw an improvement in the women’s workforce in logistics to 15%. As per Hindustan Times, 7.7 million people are employed in the sector, with the majority of them in cities such as Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Chennai and Bengaluru.

To create workforce diversity, the sectors are resorting to inclusive work environments and flexible shift timings that will attract more female employees. Industries like automobiles are following the women in leadership strategy in their hiring models and have employed more women in managerial and administrative roles.
